Ultra Precision Holes
Holes with tolerances of 0,001-0,005mm
Most standard drilling processes are not capable of producing high precision holes. Usually it is nearly impossible to make holes within a tolerance of 0,001-0,002mm.
The Challenge
One method is to use a sinking machine for production of these high precision holes. But it is very hard to drill holes with a precision level of one or two µm. Especially when it is necessary to use multiple axis of the machine.

The Solution
A JS JS rotary table is the answer to this problem. The work piece is attached to a fixture of the rotation table on the sinking machine. The electrode can be produced with the JS rotation spindle (RR10070D). After producing the electrode, it has to be adjusted for concentricity and centered to the work piece. The workpiece rotates with about 100rpm. The high precision run-out of the JS rotation table in combination with the high precision of the sinking EDM process, is able to provide a ultra precision hole.
The Example
 |
This process can be used for producing nearly all urgent tolerance holes in many different types of metals. Additional capability is realized, by using the JS EDM Rotation Table to produce different contours on the outside of the work piece. |
