EDM can be the ideal solution for the manufacture of rotation tools with symmetric shapes, especially for PCD tools.
The Challenge
PCD (Poly Crystalline Diamond) is very difficult to process. Even the production of some types of hardmetal tools is not always easy. This type of tool is used in high speed applications, with speeds of up to 40.000 rpm and more. For this reason, they have to be manufactured to very tight tolerances.

The Solution
PCD and Hardmetal tools can be produced with high precision and in a stable process using sinking or wire EDM. Together with a JS Rotary Tables and the best cutting technology, the production of such tools is an easy job.

These photos show some tool geometries. A wirecut machine, equipped with a JS R-10140 rotary table with HSK taper is the perfect solution for producing PCD and Hardmetal tools.
